The Post-Graduate Program in Plant Biodiversity (PPGBVeg) was recommended by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) in 2009, at the level of Academic Master and with an interdepartmental character, being a pioneer in the process of interiorization of the stricto sensu  postgraduate program of the State University of Bahia (UNEB), which in consortium with three departments of the institution where there is a degree offer in Biological Sciences: Department of Exact and Earth Sciences – DCET II (Alagoinhas), Department of Education – DEDC VII (Senhor do Bonfim) and Department of Education – DEDC VIII (Paulo Afonso), started its activities in 2010.

The main objective of PPGBVeg is to train and improve personnel to work in scientific research, teaching and activities development inherent to the area of Biological Sciences, especially Botany, producing systematic knowledge about the flora and plant resources of the Northeast Region through floristic inventories, taxonomic, phylogenetic, genetic, micromorphological and ecological studies in the main vegetation formations occurring in the region, aiming to contribute to the preservation of their ecosystems.
